Have you had the desire to do more with your photography than just putting images on social media or showing images to friends and family?

In the image saturated world that is 2019, I think there is even more need for considered and powerfully meaningful photography. And I believe this is something that anyone can do.

Personal or Project Photography is the most rewarding, and transformative process you can pursue as a photographer. You will be focused on capturing something beyond a ‘pretty picture’. It goes beyond the technical of the medium and enters the emotive. It is a journey that every dedicated photographer should go through, and there is no better way to do it than with a group offering regular critique, feedback and encouragement.

It will inspire, challenge and inevitably motivate you to grow and improve. Across the year you will be pushed to find what interests you.

Is it to create a visual document of youth culture in South London? Is it a study of psychics in Camden? How about a view of architectural transformations in Elephant and Castle?

Your project can take you anywhere, but you are guaranteed to end the year having created something you will be proud of for the rest of your life. It will be frustrating, it will be difficult, but ultimately it will be unbelievably rewarding.

Borough Road Gallery - where our exhibition will be held.

Beyond the personal creative journey, we will all embark on, we will explore every aspect of the photographic process, from conception, testing and research; to editing, sequencing, presentation options and printing. Then as a part of the exhibition you will be mounting, curating and designing; all to create a successful group exhibition.

This is the closest to a final project on a university course that you will find outside of an institution.

Some confirmed Guest Lecturers:

Dave Lewis

Fine Art Photographer and Anthropologist

Dave Lewis is one of the most original, accomplished and creative of the crop of Black British photographers to emerge during the 1980s. Having gained a BA (Hons) in Film and Photographic Arts from PCL (the Polytechnic of Central London) in 1985, Lewis has gone on to establish himself as a practitioner whose work consistently demands to be taken seriously.

Central to Lewis’ concerns are questions of identity, perception, society and the ways in which such things are in turn informed by history and historical factors.
